Department Academic & Laboratory Narrative
Mechanical Engineering at NHIT Durgapur stands at the core of eastern India's heavy manufacturing, metallurgy, and infrastructure renaissance. Rooted in Durgapur's industrial heartland, our department combines fundamental physical engineering with computerized manufacturing. Students spend extensive hours across 8 fully equipped machine shops—operating industrial center lathes, universal milling stations, computerized Universal Testing Machines (UTM), and CNC turning simulators. Backed by regular industrial immersions at SAIL Durgapur Steel Plant, our graduates are highly prized by national steel, infrastructure, and heavy automotive corporations.
